Car Waxing

Car waxing has traditional been known as one of the fundamental elements in the professional detailing and car cleaning service. Wax is used to maintain the finish and shine when auto detailing, boat detailing or RV detailing, as well as used on a host of other vehicle types. There are a variety of different car waxes available, from colored waxes to increase the shine and brightness of a vehicle, to the highly sought after carnauba wax, a hard wax considered one of the best available for professional detailing services.

Wax is generally available in one of two forms; liquid or paste. Car waxing professionals usually consider the paste version to be much more effective and resilient to the elements, though there is nothing to back this up. Whichever car waxing medium one prefers is generally accepted to be just as good as the alternative. Auto detailing employs the service of wax the most, as boat detailing and RV detailing both tend to use polymer sealant. A high quality sealant for automobiles does tend to be longer lasting than wax, but the number of inferior products on the market makes it difficult to determine what sealant is actually protecting the vehicle and what sealant is giving its owner a false sense of security.

Carnauba wax is often requested by owners of show cars bringing their vehicle in for car waxing service. Carnauba wax is made from Brazilian palm trees and has long been known as the most durable and lasting wax for the automobile, as well as the one wax which restores a car’s paint most effectively and creates a bright, shiny finish. Carnauba wax differs as well from company to company, with #1 yellow carnauba wax being the top end, highest quality available.

Colored waxes can be a popular choice as well, though with the hundreds of different colors produced by car companies and variations among each individual color, finding the right colored wax can be extremely difficult. Using a colored wax when car waxing an older car, can be very effective if the car does not have a clear coat applied. New cars today have a factory clear coat that prevents colored wax from being effective because of the absence of colored pigments within the coating.

Car waxing is so popular among vehicle owners because it extends the lifetime of the car’s paint and provides a finish that wicks away dirt and grime, resulting in fewer trips to the car wash. Some waxes can last for months at a time, possibly even a year if the environmental conditions are right and the wax was applied properly with a good cleaning and polishing service performed on the car first. Regardless of one’s motives for waxing a car, whether it is to keep a show car’s paint quality perfect or to keep a daily driver vehicle relatively clean, car wax protects the paint and finish and prevents build-up of elements from street driving. Even waxing the car a couple times a year can lead to a brighter, shinier vehicle more attractive in appearance and resistant to natural elements.
