How To Advertise Your Car Online Successfully

How To Advertise Your Car Online Successfully

Whenever someone needs to sell a car, it can be a very stressful experience. It can be difficult to know how to go about trying to sell your car and the whole process can seem quite overwhelming. Advertising your car is the most crucial first step in selling any car. Without advertising, no one will even know that your car is even for sale. When advertising your car, two of the most common places to turn are the Autotrader magazine or by online car advertising.

By advertising your car in Autotrader, you will get an advertisement that will run for two weeks. This advertisement includes one small photo of the car as well as two hundred characters of text. There are many regional editions of the Autotrader and the owner of the car can choose which region they would like their advertisement to run in. Advertising in the Autotrader is fairly expensive though.

Although there are many advantages to advertising your car in the Autotrader, there are some disadvantages. The first being that you have limited circulation and a limited shelf life; you also only have two hundred characters to describe the car. This is not a lot and will cause you to have to cram as much information as you can into a very small space. Also, because you only get one picture, you need to make sure that you capture the total essence of your car in that one photo. This is most often impossible to do.

For these reasons, many people prefer to advertise their car online. There are many advantages to advertising your car this way. One of the biggest advantages in advertising your car online is that it is significantly cheaper than advertising in print. This is because bandwidth and disk space are much cheaper than paper, ink, and magazine distribution. This makes for big savings that can be passed on to the seller.

The other advantage to advertising your car online is that there can be much more information included in the advertisement. Also when advertising your car online, you are usually allowed more than one picture in your advertisement. This can make a true portrayal of your car and can interest more buyers. Also, on many sites you can advertise your car until sold for far less than you can advertise it for two weeks in a car magazine.

Advertising your car online allows for many more potential buyers to look at your ad. Because it is online, anybody with an Internet connection will have access to the advertisement. This will mean that not only are more people looking at the ad but there will be potential for many more bids among interested buyers. This could mean getting a much better price for your car.

Another advantage to advertising your car online is that your ad will be up and running much more quickly than submitting it to a print magazine. The turnaround time between submitting an ad and seeing it run is generally much shorter. This means that it will be available for the public to view much more quickly as well. This could help get your car sold more quickly.

Do Not Be Intimidated by Car Maintenance

Do Not Be Intimidated by Car Maintenance

Cars are like electric lights. We often do not appreciate them until they go on the blink. Regular maintenance checks and simple service can greatly reduce the cost of car ownership and keep you a much happier traveler!

Do not let the thought of car maintenance intimidate you. There are actually several car maintenance tips you can do even if you are totally mechanically challenged!

For instance, you will want to keep your windshield washer fluid reservoir full. This involves screwing off the cap and pouring windshield wiper fluid in the right spot. You can quickly check the fluid levels when filling up at the gas station.

While you have got the windshield washer fluid out, pour some on a rag and clean the bug guts, etc. off the wiper blades.

If you see any colored fluid leaking from your car, get it serviced immediately.

If you smell any peculiar odor coming from your car, take it to the nearest service station. Odors mean something inappropriate is going on under the hood of your car!

Every fall, go ahead and replace your wiper blades. You need new ones once a year so you might as well get them before winter sets in and you are wiping away that ice and sleet!

Be sure all your lights are clean and working, including brake lights, turn signals and emergency flashers. You can perform this quick check while filling up your gas tank.

Check your tires once a month and give a look over for cuts, bulges, or nails or other foreign objects sticking out.

Take your car to your friendly serviceman once a month and have the pressure in your tires checked. This service should cost you less than five bucks, if anything.

Every three months have your oil and oil filter changed. Many times an inspection is done during the oil change. It is worth it to pay a little extra if you have to and have this done. Ask to have your battery checked, too.

Have your air filter changed when it gets dirty. You can ask the folks who change your oil to check the air filter. They are happy to change it for you.

No matter how non car savvy you may have felt in the past, finding that you can do some simple maintenance checks puts you in the drivers seat. You are likely to discover in advance if your car has a problem that should be taken care of immediately.

Gas Prices Remain At Near All Time Highs

Gas Prices Remain At Near All Time Highs - Here Are Some Tips To Improve Your Gas Mileage

The price of gas has been getting progressively higher for the last several years. Everyone would like to save on gas particularly now that the price has been increasing so rapidly due to the war and from the threat of hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico. One of the easiest and most obvious ways to save on gas costs is to increase gas mileage.

We have put together a few tips on improving your fuel economy. These tips will not merely save on gas but will also help to enable the car to last longer.

First off it is very crucial to keep the vehicle well maintained. The overall efficiency of the automobile will be greater and the car's performance will be enhanced if proper maintenance is performed on a regular basis. This also helps toimprove the overall gas mileage of the vehicle.

The inflation of your vehicle's tires have a lot to do with fuel economy, the tires of the car should always be inflated to the specifications noted for your vehicle. Tires that are improperly inflated cause extra friction and it will then require more energy and will consume more fuel. Automobile owners can save on gas expenses by having the tires properly inflated.

It is highly recommended that unnecessary weight be removed from the vehicle. The lighter the car's load, the less fuel is consumed. Don't keep your trunk loaded down with a couple hundred pounds of junk. Carriers can add additional weight to the car and should also be removed when not in use.

Drive smooth and consistent, if you use the brakes a lot and then suddenly speed up, or if the automobile is accelerated suddenly it will result in much greater fuel expenditure. Consequently, it is suggested that you drive smoothly to improve gas mileage. This is really common sense, it isn't doing you any good to race the car next to you from one stop light to the next.

Believe it or not, another way to improve gas mileage is by opening the windows. An automobile's air conditioner uses more gas when being operated. The air conditioning may be turned off and the windows opened when you are driving slowly - if the weather permits. All the same, it is not advocated to open the windows when driving fast because it adds extra pressure and drag on the vehicle which of course reduces fuel economy.

There are a lot of ways gas mileage could be improved. Automobile owners should be prudent if they would like to save money on their gas bill. It doesn't call for heavy sacrifices to improve your vehicle's fuel consumption rate. All it takes is a little responsibility and appropriate care of the automobile. These simple techniques can each help improve fuel economy a bit but when done on a regular basis and in combination with each other they will help you save a great deal of money.

Buying A New Car

Things To Do Before Buying A Car

For most of us, purchasing a new car is a serious investment we should not take lightly. Regardless if you have failed the mechanical aptitude test or you are engine savvy, purchasing a vehicle is not that hard. With numerous sources of information, you can definitely make the right choice when time comes and not receive less than your money can buy. You only need to devote the necessary time and energy to complete each step with the ultimate success.

First, decide on what type of vehicle best serves your current wants. Before choosing the color of your new automobile, you have to take under consideration your personal lifestyle and family needs. Are you living alone, or do you have family members who need you to transport them to various places? If you are a parent, a sedan, minivan of SUV might suit your family needs better than a luxurious sports car. A convertible is always looking "cool," but will your city's weather conditions allow you such a "carefree" car model? Furthermore, with the gas prices escalating the way they do today, you better also consider the fuel efficiency of the car you are about to purchase. Is this model you like designed to save on fuel by reducing gas mileage consumption? When you become a car owner you will thank yourself for thinking this beforehand than having to fill up your car's tank way too often for your weekly budget. Most importantly, remember that the vehicle you will choose has to cover first your needs and then those of your friends or significant others.

Now that you have a better idea of the type of car you are looking for, is time to conduct some serious and in-depth research on possible deals. Online research, magazines, colleagues and friends can help you tremendously during this process as you need as much information on the make and model that can fit your budget and needs. Consumer review boards and numerous websites have a wealth of information on what other owners like or dislike about their vehicles. Do not get misled by colorful advertisements and "once-in-a-lifetime" deals offered by numerous car dealers in your area. Finding the best possible deal needs some time, knowledge of the market and of course, good instinct.

After completing your "homework" in advance you will be able to negotiate a better deal at your local car dealership and not be afraid of getting scammed. Having a rough idea of how much the vehicle of your choice is likely to cost you is also very important. Thus, review price guides and take notes on information like which year was the car manufactured, how much mileage has on its meter, when was last used, if it was involved in any accidents, what type of bonus features are offered in case you pay cash, if the dealer offers any refunds and/or auto-service, if the vehicle comes with a guarantee, the last time it was inspected, etc. The more you know the better informed choice you will be able to make at the end. It is also a good idea to ask a mechanical savvy friend to join you when you limit your choices to two. If you are considering of a specific car but you are far from being considered an expert when it comes to inspect a car's engine, this is not a time to be ashamed for the things you are ignorant about. Be prepared, stay cautious, and most importantly, stay within your budget no matter what type of "dream" deal you come across.

How To Be A Winner

Car Auctions-How To Be A Winner

Have you ever wondered if there is an alternative to purchasing your next car through a dealer,or of someone getting a car at an incredible price, or wondered what happens to vehicles seized by the banks, police agencies or the government? Have you ever heard of seized auto auctions? Are you curious about what happens to pre-owned government vehicles?

These vehicles are sold at auction; some at on site auctions and some at seized auto auctions. Buyers can get these cars for thousands less than retail and some starting at bids of 0.00.

If saving that kind of money is not a good enough reason to visit a seized auto auction then here are five more

1. Seized auto auctions are fun

Seized auto auctions can be a lot of fun. First there is the excitement of bidding for that car that you always wanted. Then there is the thrill of getting your dream car at a dream price. You could even practice by guessing what the top bid will be and see how close you come. How much would you have saved

2. They provide peace of mind

It is very important for seized auto auction sites to maintain a good reputation. To this end many sites provide services such
as vehicle history reports for a small fee,or programs to protect buyers from fraud or misrepresentation. You may even be able
to check out the sellers rating if they have sold on that site before. There are also resources on how to purchase a car online
and how to bid to your advantage

3. They save time and effort

Driving from dealership to dealership, or from private owner to private owner can waste a lot of your precious time and play havoc with your nerves. What if your schedule just does not give you the time to run around? With high gas prices who wants to do all
that driving. With seized auto auctions you set your own schedule for research and can bid at home or during coffee break or lunch.

4. They help you stay on budget

A major problem faced by most buyers is letting your emotions influence your buying decision. Something the average car dealer
knows how to exploit. Seized auto auction sites protect you from the heat of bidding by allowing you to place a maximum bid level before starting the auction. This way you can only bid as much as you common sense will allow. That is as long as you do not let
your emotion decide the maximum bid to begin with.

5. That is where you get your car at a bargain price

Car auctions are one of the best places to get a great car at a bargain price. Thousands of cars, trucks and motorcycles end up
in auctions. Many of these vehicles are in prime condition; being either repossessed by banks or law enforcement agencies,
or pre-owned government vehicles. Many sites boast cars sold for savings as high as 90% of retail. While this is possible most
vehicles go for around wholesale or blue book value. Still a sizable savings over anything you can get from a dealership.

Research is your best friend. Like any major purchase you should do your research on the car you plan to purchase. Familiarize yourself with the policies and guarantees offered by the seized auto auction site. Get all the information you can about the vehicle
and the seller. Check out insurance and financing options.

Prepare well and you you will have a stress free and profitable experience. You may end up owning the car of your dreams for thousands less just buy trying out the seized auto auctions.

Auto Auctions

Auto Auctions- Available Options

Every body needs a car new or used.  If you decide to buy a used car, you have several options available to you. One of those options is either government or dealer auto auctions. Both these are great places to find a quality car for greatly reduced prices, sometimes as much as 90% off the cost of retail.

If you have a budget in mind, try to find out the true value of a car, and make sure it is in good condition, and you can find an awesome deal.

In case you are new to auto auctions, you may not know all of your options. You will probably think opening up the newspaper and finding listings is about the only way to do it, but there are several other ways to find and attend auto auctions.

You could do the newspaper method, go to the auction preview, scout out the cars you are interested in, research the cars online, and then go back the next day to make your bid.

But there are other ways.

There are all sorts of listings online for live auto auctions in your area, and you will probably get a much better overview of what might be sold there than in the newspaper.

This is if you have decided on attending a live auto auction. You could if you wish complete the whole experience at home. If you attend an online auction, you never have to leave the comfort of your home.

Of course It depends on your preferences, but I think that an online auction would offer you much more versatility and resources at your fingertips to decide on the perfect car and price. If you use an online auction, you view and bid on the selection of cars without being there. You are not limited to a specific area this way, and you can also do research while you bid.

Quite Often the cars posted on these sites come with vehicle history reports, but you should investigate them even more before you make you decisions.

Whether you prefer to be there when you win the car or do it remotely, you should always research the cars that interest you as much as possible.

When going with online auctions, remember to be aware of the area it is being sold so as not to get bogged down with delivery costs.

With live auctions, always go to the preview in order to see the condition of the cars that are up for sale. I do not think you will be able to test drive them, but seeing them will at least eliminate cars with obvious problems. For more information go to

Performance Is Married With Style In Exotic Sports Cars

Performance Is Married With Style In Exotic Sports Cars

What is it that really defines an exotic car? This is a word that is thrown about by a lot of people and used in describing things as varied as food and even exotic beauty. The naming of a car as an exotic sports car takes a little more consideration.

The sleek and aerodynamic looks of true exotic sports cars are much more than just appearance. The slick look of these beauties also contributes to their speed as they cut through the air with very little resistance or friction. The true high performance exotic sports car is as fast as it looks.

With true exotic sports cars the design is crucial to giving the vehicle that designation and is a must for the serious car enthusiast. The car makers are well aware of this fact and the makers of the high end vehicles pay particular attention to creating standout designs that draw attention and gather crowds of onlookers wherever they are parked.

Car makers such as Ferrari actually outsource the design of their vehicles such as the way that they had Pininfarina design the '02 ENZO. Another newer model that comes to mind which draws crowds is the new Lotus Elise. We saw one outside of a local restaurant last week and everyone who saw it walked over and stared at it.

While design is what makes the exotic stand out from the mere mortal vehicle it is sheer performance that is what the high end auto enthusiast seeks. The speed and handling while maintaining high speeds and hugging tight curves are the factors that truly set them apart. Think about it, the first thing that comes to mind is how fast the car is, how fast is goes from zero to sixty. Beauty really must be more than skin deep when it comes to a true high performance automobile like the 1994 Dauer 962 LeMans which currently holds the record for fastest sports car with a zero to sixty time of 2.6 seconds.

True exotics are limited production automobiles and in many cases there is a waiting list for them. This is another thing that increases the appeal, the fact that you don't see one at every stop light, except maybe in South Beach.

Even people who don't consider themselves to be car enthusiasts can easily name some of the more notable makers such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche and Lotus. Personally, I like the new Lotus Elise since it is a vehicle that is somewhat more affordable at under 50k. If you get a chance to see one up close or you are lucky enough to be able to drive one you will see what I mean. I thought that at 6'3" and 240 pounds I wouldn't be able to get in one but they are deceptively roomy.

Financial Markets And Taxation Changes

What Does 2008 Hold For The Automotive Industry?

The US economy and the resulting weakness of the dollar looks like it may well contribute to the price of crude oil continuing to rise as investors have been holding the commodity instead of dollars. This means that as the cost of a barrel of crude oil comes close to the 100 dollar figure then so fuel prices have also continued to rise.

So do higher fuel costs mean we are likely to buy or use cars, vans and Lorries less in 2008? Well seemingly not based on a latest poll of motorists. Despite fuel prices increasing at alarming rates a whopping 79 percent of motorists questioned said they had not changed their petrol and fuel buying habits and had no plans to do so. In fact the motorists questioned said petrol prices would have to increase at even more alarming rates to stop them from filling up.

Environmental issues would it seem not be as important as governments throughout the world as over 1 in 3 motorists confirmed they had no plans to replace their vehicles for more environmentally friendly cars before 2010.

And so if motorists are seemingly unaffected by rising fuel costs and are prepared to continue driving despite increased road tax and the impact on the environment surely positive times are ahead for the industry in 2008?

Well before car manufacturers and dealers start doing cartwheels, caution would certainly be advised as whilst General Motors can seen promising performance in emerging markets they have seen big losses in both American and European markets.

And with the world economy in such an uncertain state as 2007 draws to a close 2008 could well see new car sales fall with used car sales increasing. Car sales and indeed sales of all types are also likely to increase via the internet in 2008 so car dealers (new and used) without an internet presence should really be looking at establishing themselves in this emerging marketplace.

And what of the actual motorist, what does 2008 have in store for us? Well how about further increases in vehicle tax, more toll roads, increased congestion charges and still a seeming lack of a viable alternative to road use through reliable, clean and safe public transport.

The good news for some motorists on one front is that whilst the government is seemingly do all they can to penalise the motorist, insurance premiums including car insurance, van insurance and motor trade insurance are pretty stable. In fact with such competition in the insurance industry the cost of insurance like combined motor trade insurance could even fall and savings could be made.

And motor traders who are looking to make savings on their motor trade insurance premiums in 2008 using a specialist motor trade insurance broker could well be the route to take to make sure they get the protection they need at a price that is right.

2008 promises to be an exciting time for all involved in the automotive industry so put your seat belts on, buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Test Driving a Car

Test Driving Your New Or Used Car

Getting a new car thrills and excites. Sometimes it is easy to get carried away in our initial response to a car. No matter how much you like a certain vehicle, take it for a long, serious test drive.

You should first plan on spending as long as possible on your test drive. Fifteen minutes is not enough time. You want to thoroughly examine the car and definitely have a mechanic check it out.

Take a look at the vehicle overall. Do the body parts line up? Does the paint match? Will doors open and close easily? Do the tires look like they wear evenly?

Check under the hood. You may not know exactly what you are looking at, but that is okay. Look for leaky hoses, worn belts, and dirty oil. Ask the dealer to show you the automatic transmission fluid. Smell it. If there is a burned odor, steer clear. The fluid should be clear and reddish. Transmission repair costs are not pretty.

Have someone show you the radiator water. It should have a light yellow or green color.

Make sure all of the warning lights and gauges work. Start the car and check all lights and functions. And here is a no-brainer - make sure no warning lights remain lit on the dashboard.

Look at the airbag indicator lights. If these lights do not illuminate as you start the car, or if they stay lit after the car is running, they are not working correctly.

Try on the seat belt. Test the vehicle in the early evening to determine the headlight visibility. If you already have a child safety seat, go ahead and install it. Not all seats are compatible with all cars.

Accelerate up to 35-40 MPH. Is shifting smooth and steering straight? When braking, a pull to the left or the right could indicate a problem.

If you buy via the classifieds, make sure to check the name on the title and match it to the name on the sellers drivers license. Just to be safe.

It would be nice to find the little ladies almost new car that was not driven more than 15,000 miles a year. Of course, low miles on the odometer would be a big plus, too. Even then, you can not assume that a low-mileage car is necessarily in great shape.

One major concern is odometer tampering. So do your homework. Ask for a detailed service history report. If records were not kept, you can check things out for yourself with the vehicle identification number. Provide this VIN number to your state vehicle history company to get a record of the cars former life.

Remember, no matter how in love you are with a car, think twice before purchasing one that has been wrecked. You do not need anyone elses problems. There are dozens of other cars you could enjoy just as much.

So test drive more than one car. You will never regret a wise, well-thought out purchase.

Car Manufactory Problems

BMW "No Reverse" Transmission Problem

An automatic transmission is just that- automatic, consequently most people tend to pay very little attention to it until a major problem rears its ugly head.

Picture the scenario- you are driving along in the lap of luxury, the satellite radio blaring and the heated seats on. You have become accustomed to the comfort level and great driving experience brought to you by BMW.

You decide to stop at the local convenience store on your way home to grab some ice cream for the kids and a bottle of water for yourself. Upon returning to your car, you start it up, check your rear view mirror, put the shifter in reverse and then the unthinkable happens- the engine just revs as if it is in neutral and the car goes nowhere!

This article deals with the reasons behind an unexpected loss of reverse in certain BMW automatic transmission equipped vehicles, specifically the 3 series and 5 series vehicles that use the ZF5HP19 or steptronic transmission. This includes the popular 323i, 323ci, 325i, 328i, 330i, 525i, 528i, 530i, X3 and X5 models well as some others built in the 1999 to present model years.

To eliminate confusion, this does not apply to vehicles equipped with the GM 5L40 E transmission, just the ones with the sometimes problematic ZF5HP19. The 5L40 E has some issues of its own that are beyond the scope of this article but are certainly going to be the subject of another.

The failure rate for these transmissions seems to be very high and is expected to become much more of a problem as time goes by.

Typically, the vehicle is working perfectly while driving forward but when it is put in reverse there is a complete and permanent loss of movement to back up.

Reverse is typically a major feat for any transmission to accomplish- imagine the demands that are placed on a gearbox as it is asked to reverse the torque of your engine so that you can back up your nearly 4000 pound vehicle.

By far, the most common cause of the reverse problem in BMW's is the failure of the D-G clutch drum. Specifically, the snap ring that retains the D or reverse clutch breaks out of the clutch drum resulting in an inability for the clutch pack to apply.

The good news is that there is hope in regards to a proper repair. The factory has released an updated part that so far appears to be a permanent fix for this problem.

In our testing and in conjunction with several hundred successful repairs at our facilities, the new part seems to be metallurgically superior in several ways.

We have found that there is an improved radius area as well as slightly thicker casting. In addition to this, the grove that retains the snap ring is also relocated further away from the edge of the drum.

With this issue addressed and attention to detail in several other areas of the ZF5HP19 unit, the transmission can be repaired to "better than new" condition by a competent transmission rebuilder / remanufacturer. In fact, when properly repaired, the ZF gearbox becomes quite robust and can provide an almost indefinite service life.

Selling A Used Car

Online Classified Ad Tips For Selling A Used Car

When it comes to selling a used car via an online classified ad, you have the opportunity to reach a much larger audience than you would with traditional advertising methods. If you have never sold with this method, or if you feel that your last sale could have gone better, here are some tips to keep in mind that will help ensure a successful used car sale.

The first thing to do is to establish the value of your used car, and the best way to do this is to consult a car values book, and other existing online classified car ads with similar vehicles. You may also consider taking your car to a lot to see what a dealer would offer, and then incorporate all of this information into the price that you include in your ad.

Next, be sure to list the body style, model, and year of your used car, as well as the engine size, color, and mileage. Honesty really is the best policy, and if your car has some less than desirable qualities, like cosmetic dings or rust, be sure to emphasize the positive to offset these negative descriptions. Phrases such as one owner, fuel economy, well maintained, and low mileage stand out to ad readers more than comments about imperfections that can be easily fixed.

After you have determined a price and written an effective ad, the next step is to prepare your vehicle for sale. Have your car professionally cleaned and detailed, and instead of spending money on major repairs, which will likely cost you more than the price that you will receive for the car, plan on being honest about the condition of your car, both in the ad and in person.

Once your ad is posted and your car is ready, it is time to wait for the calls and email inquiries to start rolling in. Be sure to give honest answers to questions, and make an appointment for a specific time to show the car. If the prospective buyer is late or does not show up, do not feel obligated to wait or hold the car for them, just move on to the next person. Always check the title transfer procedures and requirements for your state before you transfer physical ownership of the car, and always demand payment in cash or by certified check to protect your interests.

Online classified ads, when used correctly, can be powerful selling tools, so use yours wisely, following the above tips, and you will be well on your way to a successful sale.

Booster Seats Protect Children

Booster Seats Protect Children

When a child outgrows or "graduates" from a child safety seat, they are not ready to just hop in the car, put on a safety belt, and go. Safety belts are designed for a 165-pound adult. There is an important transition to make ' using a "belt positioning" (not a "shield" style) booster seat that meets federal safety standards.

Unfortunately, most of the 20 million children in the U.S. who should be in a booster seat in the car are not. While the worst-case scenario is for a child to be in an automobile unrestrained, having the wrong restraint can also pose a serious risk.

A child wearing a poorly-fitted adult safety belt can sustain serious, life-threatening injuries, including being ejected from a vehicle during a crash. Using just a seat belt, kids are 3.5 time more likely to suffer significant injury, and four times more likely to suffer a head injury. Booster seats are 60 percent more effective than seat belts alone.

With child passengers, lap belts ride up on the abdomen, and shoulder belts can cut across the face or neck. Children are not only safer, but can see better and are more comfortable in a booster seat that allows the safety belt to fit and function as intended. Booster seats do this by raising a child to a height so that a lap and shoulder belt fit properly. The lap belt should ride low, below the hip bones and across the top of the thighs, not on the stomach, and the shoulder belt should cross the middle of the chest and shoulder or collarbone. This helps protect the internal organs, spine and head from injury in the event of a car crash.

Does Your Child Need a Booster Seat?

How do you know if your child needs to be in a booster seat? Children who have outgrown a child safety seat should ride in a booster seat until they are at least eight years old, or four feet, nine inches tall. Generally, kids from four to eight years old, and from 40 to 80 pounds, need to be in a booster seat. Some smaller children may need a booster seat until age ten or longer.

Indicators that a booster seat is needed include an inability to sit all the way back against the seat back; an inability to bend the knees comfortably at the edge of the seat; a safety belt that does not cross the child's shoulder between the neck and arm; a lap belt that does not sit low across the abdomen, touching the hips and thighs; and an inability for the child to be comfortable and stay seated like this for the entire trip.

Are Booster Seats Really Safe?

Many parents and caregivers incorrectly believe that booster seats may not be safe. Concerns include that booster seats are loose fitting and unstable that might not adequately restrain a child in a crash, but these are unfounded.

Children should stay in their car safety seat as long as possible before moving to a booster seat. Once your child reaches the upper weight or height allowed for your seat, as listed on the label and instruction manual for the seat), or his/her ears have reached the top of the seat, it's time to move to the booster seat.

Booster seats, used in the back seat, are held in place by the seatbelt, and used with the lap and shoulder belts, just as an adult uses them. They are not tethered to the car like a child car seat. High-back and backless booster seats are available, and should be used until your child can correctly fit in lap and shoulder seat belts. Never use a booster seat with just a lap belt, as serious injury may result.

If your child was injured as the result of an ineffective car seat, you may have a legal claim. Contact an unsafe products or car crash attorney immediately for more information.

Car General Maintenance

Oil is the Life of Your Car

Oil cleans your car. It lubricates parts. It helps cool things down. Without it, your engine would be sitting squarely in the center of your local junkyard.

Scheduling regular oil changes is vital to the life of any vehicle.

The oil filter keeps little bits of dust and other contaminants out of your engine, and helps ensure the oil runs smoothly, so you want to change that every time you change the oil.

Imagine how your body would react if your kidneys and liver shut down. The impurities in your blood would build up continually, and it would not take long for your body to completely break down.

Oil for your car can be likened to blood to your body. Your car needs clean oil to keep going. What would happen if you never changed your oil?

Well, you would be lucky to get 30,000 miles out of the car before your engine would collapse.

Say you only change your oil once a year. Your car seems to be running fine, so no harm done, right? Not so fast! Your engine has been flooded with contaminants. It will not be long till you find yourself coming to a standstill.

Regular oil changes are as important to your car as daily trips to the bathroom are to you. Now, we will not take the analogy too far, but you get the idea. This one scheduled maintenance may help your vehicle avoid mechanical failures.

I actually heard two mechanics say that they figured you could run a car forever if you had the oil changed every 2000 miles. That may seem excessive to some folks. But it kept my baby humming nicely!

Now if you see any hint of an oil leak on the driveway after the car is parked, get to a service station. This could be ultra bad news and you need to have your car checked out immediately. Ditto if you detect a burning smell or smoke coming from around the engine!

You may not feel 100 percent comfortable changing your oil, but you can check it easily. It is best to check the oil when your engine is cold. Unscrew the cap and pull out the dipstick. Wipe it with a clean tissue or paper towel. Reinsert the stick all the way. Then pull it back out and check the dipstick. You will see add and full lines clearly marked on it. If the oil film is between the add and full lines, you are good. If it is below the add line, you need a quart of oil. Make sure you use the kind recommended in your owners manual. After adding the oil, repeat all the steps.

See, that was not too hard, was it?

Make sure you take the time to check the oil levels in your car, and have it changed regularly. It literally means the difference between life and death for your vehicle!

The Ins And Outs Of Leasing A Vehicle

The Ins And Outs Of Leasing A Vehicle

Thinking of leasing a car? It is pretty awesome to always have a new looking car sitting in your driveway! But, you may want to take a few things into consideration before jumping in to a lease head first.

When you lease a vehicle, you are given the right to use it for a specific number of months and miles. Yes, the monthly payments are lower than if you bought the car outright. And that is pretty attractive!

A low monthly offer definitely captures your attention during car commercials. But at the end of a lease, you are empty-handed. The lease might allow you to buy the car under certain terms make sure those terms are stated, if that is something you think you are going to be interested in.

It depends on your needs. You may not want to keep a vehicle very long, in which case, leasing could be a valuable option.

Either way, check the beginning, middle, and end of lease costs. Are there mileage limits? Most likely. What upkeep is required? You usually have to abide by manufacturers recommendations on servicing the vehicle such as changing oil, rotating tires, etc.

Usually if you end a lease early, you end up having to pay a pretty hefty termination charge. Check out all the fine print so you know exactly what you are getting into.

Many times you have to agree on a specific number of miles you would drive a year which is normally 12,000 to 15,000 annually. If you go above that, there would be additional charges. Take that into consideration of you are planning a family vacation by car.

Damage, excess wear to the vehicle, and any missing parts incur additional charges, as would be expected. Naturally, the leasing company requires you to have car insurance.

There might be extra upfront costs, like a down payment, a security deposit, taxes and other fees. So your initial payment might be higher than you first thought. Check it all out before signing on the dotted line. I have several friends who would only lease, and would never consider buying a car.

If you are the type of person who wants to trade your car in every two years or so, and you take good care of your vehicles, leasing may be for you. On the other hand, if you are the type to drive a car into the dust and hold onto it forever, leasing would be a more expensive option than an outright purchase.
